Before and After Transformations
These clients had just completed a beautiful interior renovation and the outside didn't reflect this young family and their style! We changed the pathway that didn't line up with the porch steps to a meandering flagstone path that sweeps the eye across a stunning new lawn and layered planting beds against the house. This four season garden attracts pollinators and allows space for them to enjoy their lush new retreat.
No one likes a plant that "eats the house". This well-established neighborhood in a prime location had landscape that was lacking. The multi-colored brick on the first floor was jarring, so we repainted in tones to pick up the beautiful flagstone walkway and enhanced it with a liriope border. Plantings in the correct scale and a crape myrtle tree for privacy as it matures will add color in late summer to this spruced up space.
Every southerner loves a good screened porch and this sweet family was no different. We removed two attached decks and built a beautiful barrel vaulted screened porch off the kitchen and a separate open deck off the family room. We changed the materials so they were consistent with the house and added lighting so the family could use the space day and night.
This photo shows the screened porch above with new steps leading onto a lower flagstone patio and seating area with a firepit. What was once a mess of mulch splashing against the house is now a functional space that gets used for gatherings and playtime. The little girls love picking flowers that bloom all summer long to bring inside!
An estate home in a wooded enclave requested a refresh of their entry. The brickwork was in great condition but the caps topping it were flaking off and lighting was no longer working. We designed beautiful custom copper lanterns to sit atop new handmade sandstone caps. This laborious process resulted in a stunning entry both day and night. The customers were so pleased with the changes we continued to add to their beautiful acreage for many years!
Shady areas are tricky for many customers, thankfully designers know how texture and layers can add beauty to gardens! This home wanted more lawn and beds that were easy to maintain. We removed overgrown shrubs and ground cover and brought in ferns, hellebore and hollies (all deer resistant!) to enhance their entry.
Multi-level decks from the early 90s were in disrepair and the homeowners couldn't imagine how they could entertain friends, family and their toddler safely. We were happy to oblige with a beautiful seamless paver landing that flows into a new pool deck surround. New coping was added to the pool so the transition was seamless and a fresh pebble coat layer inside the pool makes it feel as though you're swimming in a lagoon. Indoor outdoor living is maximized with an added awning for shade and a firepit to overlook their sanctuary.
This urban oasis was lacking any real reason to go outside other than to get to the carport. Space in a city is at a premium so we ripped out the old walkway and created a custom flagstone patio for this young couple to entertain friends and host soirees prior to hitting the town. As plants mature they will provide privacy from neighbors without overgrowing the narrow lot, something many people don't factor in.
